JORGE CARINO of ABS CBN FALSE field report SEPT 28 2009
1. Vice Mayor of Pasig PRIORITIZED the RESCUE of his family
2. Vice Mayor of Pasig asked SENIOR CITIZENS to STEP OUT OF RUBBER BOATS to giveway to his family.
FACT AND WHAT REALLY HAPPENED:
1. Family of Vice was stranded 3 days 2 nights while Vice was stranded in Brgy Sta Lucia
2. Vice Mayor got home Monday morning to check house AS A FATHER would do, but left right away to visit other affected areas, while his family got left behind to clean the house
3. Vice only picked up grandchildren ages 6, 5 & 2 years old AND NEVER asked the senior citizens to get out of the boat, you asshole!!

RE: JORGE CARINO TV PATROL NEWS REPORT ON PASIG SITUATIONER WITH COMMENTARY ON VICE MAYOR MARTIRES RIDING THE RAFT

On Sept 28, 2008 in the News Program TV Patrol Jorge Carino was reporting on a situationer in Pasig aboard a raft which was clearly empty save for him and his cameraman and some rescue escorts. In the video he showed residents atop the roofs and some in the streets. During this sequence he chanced upon Pasig Vice Mayor Yoyong Martires clearly carrying a female child aboard one of the raft. His VO said something like …” maraming residente ang ilang araw ng nag aantay ng tulong kabaligtara ng vice mayor na nauna ng naisalba ang pamilya or nakasakay pa sa rescue raft etc…”

I would like to say that regardless of whatever categorical statement he said to describe the scene clearly he was editorializing and not reporting. Had he wanted to report on the vice mayor he could have asked him outright “ Vice anong ginagawa mo?” Instead he insinuated that the vice mayor was abusing his authority in the rescue operations of Pasig. Proof of the success of his malicious statement is the response elicited in the various internet postings calling the vice mayor "many names", all with reference to the news story that you aired.

I am ignorant in the ethics of news but tell me what has more weight accuracy or sensationalism? In this case catching a public official aboard a raft carrying a child and implying abuse of power?

For the record here are the facts behind the story

1. The child the vice mayor was carrying is the youngest grandchild. She is the 2 yo granddaughter who refused to go with anyone else but her lolo yoyong.
2. The other Martires family members aboard that raft were the other 2 children- 4yo and 6yo grandchildren respectively and 1 maid.
3. The children were being moved to a relative's house where they can be comfortable.
4. At the time the video was taken (Monday morning Sept 28) the only family members who left the Martires house aboard the raft were the 3 children and the vice mayor who was bringing them to their uncle's waiting car.
5. Since Saturday the Martires family took in 8 family evacuees around the Marietta-Romeo area. For 2 nights evacuees were eating the same food and sleeping in the same room as the children in the 2nd floor part of the house because the whole first floor was devastated.
6. Inside the house was the Vice Mayors wife who was injured Saturday afternoon when she slipped fighting off the rising waters. Aside from her, the 89yo lola was also in the house.
7. Sunday at one in the morning, one of the evacuees in the Martires home who was a pregnant woman went into labor, we called for rescue and it came, With the opportunity of hitching rescue to safer ground, the whole family still stayed inside the flooded house in Pasig. This despite a slightly injured wife of the vice mayor, an 89yo lola and 3 small children. In short we stayed put like everyone else.
9. The 3 children were evacuated only after all the evacuees in the Martires home were evacuated.

I can go on and on in defense of the Vice Mayors character and actions during the time of crises. How far can Jorge Carino go defending his?

But of course that is not the point.

I am writing because you have been unfair to the Martires family. Jorge Carino used our family and abused his privilege of having an audience, to tweak his otherwise mediocre report to have a little bit of spice. Without the Vice Mayor commentary what would his story have been like?

This is the only means available to us to defend our side. The damage has been done and unlike your all-powerful news organization I don’t have a nationwide audience to address. I am writing to ask for an explanation and an opportunity for us to reverse the damage that the report has done to our family.

Thank you Very much.

With as much respect as I can muster
